Celebrate vida y cultura as Hollywood Forever presents Día y Noche de los Muertos (Day and Night of the Dead) on Saturday October 30th, 2021 to honor the return of Quetzalcoatl, the Feathered Serpent at Hollywood Forever Cemetery featuring separate daytime and evening events.
What’s good Gab was invited to Hollywood Forever’s Day and Night of the Dead Media Event—and we got a colorful and flavorful preview of the 22nd annual Día y Noche de los Muertos which is sure to be a celebration of life AND appreciation for life!
Life and death have taken a new and special meaning with all of us living in a pandemic, which is why this year’s Día y Noche de los Muertos is more-than-ever the must-attend event to come together with family, friends, and like-minded souls to experience a colorful celebration of life, the afterlife, culture, and the arts.
Here are a few of this year’s highlights that you won’t want to miss:
THE RETURN OF QUETZALCOATL – EL RETORNO DE QUETZALCOATL

Witness the rebirth, and rise! From the flames of death and destruction we look to the Quetzal bird, the phoenix of the Americas, rising from the ashes, reborn.
Adorned in the feathers of the Quetzal we welcome the Return of Quetzalcoatl, the plumed serpent, ancient God of the Mayans and Aztecs, Priest King, Lord of the Winds and the Harvest Maize – that seed of civilizations – and the One God who descends into the underworld and resurrects humankind with his own blood.
ARTS & CULTURE – ARTE Y CULTURA
Tyler Cassity, president of Hollywood Forever and co-founder of the event is extremely excited to welcome everyone back to Día y Noche de los Muertos. He expresses the importance for us all to unify after such a tough year of loss, and he’s stresses the importance for families “to bring children to have a conscious contact to death.”
And this year, there will be separate daytime and evening events allowing guests to experience a more intimate look at this year’s theme. The daytime event will be filled with family-friendly fun featuring a children’s plaza and cultural performances, as well as altars, art exhibitions, aztecs, folkorico dance, traditional dance, childrens plaza, arts and crafts vendors, and culinary vendors, all ending at 3pm.

The separately ticketed evening event is where the night will come to life and will feature musical artists, as well as altars, art exhibitions, Aztecs, traditional dance, cultural performers, arts and crafts vendors, and culinary vendors, from 5pm to 12am.
Angie Jimenez, Altar Program Coordinator calls the eve of Día y Noche de los Muertos a “magical night on Friday where families come together” to remember and honor their loved ones—and as Angie explains, “altars are the heart and soul of the event.”
On Saturday October 30th, discover these imaginative and incredible altars which are all unique and created with love. What’s more, get a closer look and become part of “la familia” as you learn about the lives, family ties, four-legged friends, and ofrendas (offerings) including, favorite foods and beverages.
ENTERTAINMENT- ENTRETENIMIENTO

This year, Hollywood Forever proudly welcomes Chilean Indie-Pop muse Mon Laferte as the main stage headliner in the evening. There will also be a variety of performances by Little Jesus, Y La Bamba, Marinero, and more—all set to get the crowd grooving with good vibes! The daytime event will feature Banda las Angelinas as well as rock legend Jaime Lopez.
FOOD AND FUN – COMIDA Y DIVERSIÓN
The media event gave us a “taste” of the flavorful food, delectable drinks, and tasty treats that will be offered at both the Día y Noche de los Muertos.
We loved Macheen’s birria tacos, they were full of flavor, savory and spectacular—two words: chef’s kiss!

We were awestruck with Uncle Nearest cocktails that have been specially-curated for Dia de los Muertos. Insider tip: be sure to get your hands on the Black Magic Manhattan and Souls & Saints- these cocktails will definitely raise your spirits!

There will also be a variety of food to savor from seafood faves like ceviche, tamales, and tacos, to sweet treats and drinks to die for including Tito’s Handmade Vodka artisanal cocktails like La Catrina, a strawberry infused libation.
And don’t forget to shop for unique artisanal gifts and artistic treasures—and get your makeup done by the many talented artists throughout to celebrate calavera style!
