Gather with family and friends for a one-of-a-kind celebration at Hollywood Forever’s Dia de los Muertos on Saturday, November 2nd, 2019 to honor “Migraciones Sagradas” (Sacred Migrations).
What’s good Gab had the opportunity to participate in Hollywood Forever’s Press Day to get a preview of this year’s Dia de los Muertos which is set to be a colorful celebration of life, culture, and the arts.

Here is a rundown of a few of this year’s highlights that you won’t want to miss:
20th anniversary grandeur
This year, Hollywood Forever will celebrate its 20th annual Dia de los Muertos and as Cathedral Mausoleum curator, Luis Villanueva states, “este ano van a echar la casa por la ventana…va estar buenísima.” Meaning, “this year they are going to throw the house through the window…it’s going to be REALLY good!” And Villanueva aims to set the bar high this year being in charge of the Art Exhibition in the Cathedral Mausoleum, he’s busy at work for the display which will have 10 sculptured butterflies of 8-feet each and 122 impressive paintings from 15 different artists.

Arts & Culture
Arturo Rosado is in charge of “El Fandango En Su Esplandor” Stage which will celebrate the Monarch butterflies’ migration representing a spiritual encounter through theatre and music.
Fiacro will bring to life an Aztec ceremony with a Pre-Hispanic music show produced with stones along with a traditional dance hailing from Michoacán, Morelia.

Angie Jimenez and Celine Mares are in charge of this year’s altars where Mexican-American artist, Carlos Alamaraz, an early proponent of the Chicano street arts movement will be honored with an altar.
Gabriel Avila is in charge of “El Mosaico” Stage where 350 individual performers will bring a variety of entertainment to life. Avila will also showcase a beautiful Monarch dress with a train composed of immigrants personal stories and experiences.

Main stage entertainment
This year, Hollywood Forever proudly welcomes Grammy winners and Mexico City rockeros Café Tacvba as the main stage headliners. There will also be a variety of performances by Lido Pimienta, La Dona, Savila, DJ Raul Campos, and the Delirians—we got to experience their unique reggae-ska-banda styling that made the crowd groove with good vibes.
Food & Fun
Hollywood Forever will be transformed into the mecca celebrating life and loved ones, and will be filled with a variety of entertainment throughout as well as altars honoring those that have passed, artwork celebrating culture and the Sacred Migrations theme, ceremonial dances and music, catrina fashion (there will be a costume contest!), and food and fun. There will be a variety of entertainment and activities for the entire family to enjoy. There will also be a variety of food to savor from seafood faves like ceviche, tamales, and tacos, to sweet treats like churro cotton candy and drinks to die for from mescal to Micheladas. And don’t forget to shop for unique artisanal gifts and artistic treasures—and get your makeup done by the many talented artists throughout to celebrate calavera style!

ABOUT SACRED MIGRATIONS:
This year we embrace the Monarch butterfly as a symbol of Dreamers and Immigrants whose personal journeys echo the annual migrations the butterflies make between Mexico and the U.S. The Monarch’s pending inclusion on the Endangered Species list is also an urgent call to love and protect our shared earth. As we celebrate our 20th Anniversary at Hollywood Forever, we share our gratitude for the beautiful migration of Día de los Muertos from its homeland of Michoacán to the heart of Hollywood.
