Pack your vintage duds and dust off your dapper suits for the Queen Mary’s 13th annual Art Deco Festival returning this weekend, August 19 – 20, 2017. Produced in collaboration with the Los Angeles Art Deco Society, the Queen Mary invites attendees to come aboard and drink, dine, dance, and discover the opulence of this by-gone era immersed among the largest Art Deco collection in the World. Daily festival activities include shopping for favorite vintage items, marveling at authentic collectables, and experiencing one-of-a-kind lectures by experts on the period.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
- Saturday, August 19th
- 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. – Shop vintage items, marvel at authentic collections, get your hair styled in your favorite era, and more at the Vintage Bazaar.
- 11 a.m. – Art Deco in entertainment Design, Lecture by Eddie Sotto
- 1:30 p.m. – The Bathroom of Tomorrow: How Hollywood & Art Deco Design Revolutionized the Restroom, Lecture by Anne Marie Kelly.
- 3 p.m. – Mystery, Myth and Legend: Distilling Truth in Absinthe: European origins and separating fact from myth about absinthe, Lecture by Damien Montanile
- 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. – The Art Deco Grand Ball is an exquisite vintage affair with a delectable 4-course historic menu, while famous Dean Mora Orchestra plays sounds of the era. A portion of the proceeds for this event support the Queen Mary art conservation project.
- Sunday, August 20th
- 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. – Shop vintage items, marvel at authentic collections, get your hair styled in your favorite era, and more at the Vintage Bazaar.
- 11 a.m. – Deco, Divinity, and the Yellow Brick Road: The Art Deco period was one of the most significant and influential periods of religious diversity, Lecture by Christine Hoeffner
- 12:30 p.m. – Decadent Design: How department stores seduced shoppers during the Art Deco era, Lecture by Therese Poletti
- 2 p.m. – Art Deco use of line, simplicity and geometric patterning in fashion designs of M-G-M costume designer, Adrian, Lecture by Richard Adkins –
- 4 p.m. – Take a swing or two on the dance floor, and enjoy traditional tea service at yjr Swingin’ Sunday Tea Dance. Enjoy toe-tapping music provided by Grammy-award-winning artist Ian Whitcomb and his Bungalow Boys.
