Mark your calendars boos and ghouls because this year’s Los Angeles Haunted Hayride is set to be bigger, better — and more thrilling and chilling than ever so get ready to confront your fear!
In marvelously macabre fashion, Ten Thirty One Productions hosted their ever-popular and fan-favorite Great Horror Movie Night series this month with a special screening of Friday the 13th on Friday, May 13th!
And to make the spooky night extra-eerily special, Ten Thirty One Productions gave me and select media a sneak preview of the infamous Los Angeles Haunted Hayride with creator Melissa Carbone to share what scares lie ahead for this year’s legendary attraction that will run from October 1, 2016 through the October 31, 2016.
So read on to find out how you can take part of the “Secret Society of Halloween” at one of California’s most paranormally active sites at the 2016 Los Angeles Haunted Hayride located in Griffith Park’s Old Zoo Area, where you’ll enjoy thrills and chills to experience with family and friends (recommended for children ages 13+) — and confront the “Ghosts of Halloween past”!
The 2016 Los Angeles Haunted Hayride will be the “Secret Society of Halloween” and is thrillingly described by creator Melissa Carbone to be “dark, enchanting, magical, beautiful, and highly-highly-highly immersive. Every guest who comes into the hayride this year will be assigned to a faction. When guests get to the hayride they’ll have badges, they’ll have radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology that will help them navigate their way through the attraction — and when guests actually get to the top of the hayride to the loading dock, they will be put into wagons where they’ll be either the ‘Eilte’ part of society or they’ll be considered the ‘Deranged’ part of society and go different ways, and where guests will have two completely different experiences on the Hayride this year which has never been done before.”
Describe the two different societies?
MC: If you’re on the “Elite” wagon- it will feel very white glove, very elegant, ballroom, with a little bit of white-collar corruption mixed in there. The “Deranged” side will be more chaotic, it’ll be louder, think industrial metal-grunge & gritty. They will both be epic experiences!
Any similarities? What lies ahead at the top of the hayride trail?
MC: The thing that will be similar on both trails regardless if you’re on the “Elite” or “Deranged” side is that both sides will end by being commandeered on foot into an initiation. So guests will be on foot in the middle of the hayride trail, where people are usually in the safety of their own wagon.
So now guests are on foot in the middle of the hayride trail, sent through an initiation that will be of “Ghosts of Halloween Past.” Guests will confront their fear — the ghosts of Hayride past with the most favorite characters, scenes, engagements and interactions that we’ve had in the Los Angeles Haunted Hayride over the past 7 years are going to come back but now guests are going to face them on foot in close proximity! It’s going to be incredible! If guests actually get through the initiation and find their way out, which they will, there will be a wagon waiting for them to pick them back up and take them on the second half of the hayride trail which will continue them on the “Secret Society” experience.
Can guests experience both the “Elite” and Deranged” Society’s on different nights?
MC: If you come one night and you’re put on the “Elite” wagon, and then you come back another night just show them your ticket that says you were already on “Elite” and they’ll put you into other society. And we’re going to actually offer discounted rates for people who have already ridden who want to come back for the second experience.
What can guests expect in Purgatory (the Haunted Village)?
MC: Purgatory will stay pretty consistent but we’ll re-imagine the activities — with “Secret Society” themes like Deviance and Initiation.
A fan-favorite is the Haunted Hayride’s maze in the dark, any hints for this year’s maze?
MC: We haven’t’ shared any information on that, but I will tell you that people who love that maze are going to be mind-blown this year because that entire maze is now different this year too. It’s bigger, we’ve actually made the rooms more elaborate, and we’ve changed the maze…the House of Shadows from last year and the In-Between Dark maze, we’ve morphed the two and we’ve put it where the In-Between Dark maze was so it’s going to be this giant pitch-black House of Shadows and we’re going to dive deep into the shadow concept.
The 2016 Los Angeles Haunted Hayride is set to be an insidious and immersive experience that’s sure to be epic for new and returning guests alike!
